Thursday 25 Mar 2004 Hello David,

Sophie will be coming with me tonight. FYI, Gazette published the Letter. And kudos to you for such good coverage on your website on Pierre Sevigny... Leo Ryan

2003

Friday Nov 28, 2003 Hi Everyone,

Nataliie Hollinger click fo larger Sorry about the group letter! As some of you may know, I recently moved from Mont Tremblant back to Montreal (and if it's been an eternity since we last spoke, I left Lake Placid last year to live in Mont Tremblant, QC...). After 8 years, it's great to be back in the Big City. I'm currently finishing up my 5th year of a five year program in osteopathic studies (in Montreal) and preparing a Master's thesis. I've started my own physiotherapy/osteopathy practice and you can check out the details (including what osteopathy is) on my new website www.AnatomyNat.com . Always looking for new clients!!!

David,
Thank you very much for this Wednesday evening [Wed1109]. Krys was delighted with it, as was I. Thank you for all the trouble you took to develop the film clips, that was an amazing amount of work!
You are really incredibly generous with your time, both of you.

Thank you,
Margaret Lefebvre

Tuesday Mar 11, 2003 That is an incredible pan shot of the Wed Night group the day your water pipes broke! But no one seems to have noticed.

Thank you for your article. I had a student ask me why Duplessis was not ousted from power earlier, and coudn't answer it. Our textbook deals with a lot of Canadian history but precious little on Duplessis. My guess is that it is not considered a major issue outside of Quebec. Anyway, your article gives some valuable insight into the man and the times. Shawn Gough Port Hardy, BC

Pamela,
I saw the article in the Post, thought your name was familiar and sent a message to David and Diana to confirm. Sure enough, we have met at one or two Wednesday Night's back in the early '90's.
Diana kindly sent me your web page info. The press articles were excellent. Hope they have produced some result$. What a worthy endeavour your and your husband have undertaken. I have today sent you a modest contribution to show my support, and will send tell my friends and associates about your Foundation.
I am from this area (Va) and returned here from Montreal when my wife and I decided to divorce in 1998. I now live in Fredericksburg, about 50 miles south of D.C., commute to my office in Arlington, and am planning to move to the District this summer.
My 18 year old son is with me this summer. While not having gone through what you did, just the loneliness from being separated from children by divorce is bad enough. So we're enjoying our time together.
Anyhow, best regards, Pamela, and hats off to you both. If I'm in your area I'll certainly call.

Tony

Great hearing from you, and thanks for the info on Pamela as well as Wed Nite. I just wrote her a note and will copy you.

Sounds like you two are still 'movin and shakin' up there. Have a great trip to China, and look forward to staying in touch.

Dear Tony,

I am glad that I waited to reply to your most welcome message. This arrived today and yes, Pamela is indeed the same wonderful, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial person that you remember. She arrived most unexpectedly last May to visit Wednesday Night's 1001st celebration and it was a joy to see her and to hear about her great work. Do get in touch with her - I am sure that she would enjoy it.

We haven't met the new husband, so can't tell you much about him. It was lovely to hear from you. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to respond as I would like to, as I am under a severe deadline. I am leaving for Shanghai next Tuesday for the IATA Annual General Meeting where we are launching IATA's new Web site (not that it is complete). The last few weeks have been sheer Hell. 12-14 hour days (including weekends and holidays). David has been marvelously understanding and supportive, but I think he may just be glad to "see the back of me" for a while.

Do go to www.Wednesday-night.com and catch up on our news - it's all there!
I will be back around the 10th of June and after a little R&R here, will be eminently more communicative.
Love from our household to you.
Diana

Dear friends,

Here is an article about the Rachel Foundation published to mark May 23rd, Missing Children's Day.

We take this opportunity to thank all of you who have helped the Foundation in so many different ways since we started in late 2000. It is your continued financial support, professional assistance and loving encouragement that makes the work we do possible.

We ask that you please continue to help us secure short-term and long-term funding for our programs, training, education and research.

With our warm good wishes and thanks,

Hi Diana,
thanks for this, I am glad you enjoy my site ! Montreal is only a hop, skip, and jump away from Ottawa and I frequently visit the city. I'd love to join you one of these Wednesday nights ! Regards, - pierre

Dear Pierre (not-the-Mayor) Bourque,
Thank you for the kind words and the heads-up on the dead link. And Thank You for introducing us to your site, which is great fun. Do you ever get away from the site and Ottawa long enough to come to Montreal for a Wednesday Night Salon? We would welcome you as a guest and you might enjoy some of the conversation.
In any event, as fellow news junkies, we will be following Bourque Newswatch with great interest and enthusiasm. Diana ThÈbaud Nicholson

Dear Diane and David, Fri 11/2/01 3:15 PM

Congratulations for your new wedsite. I checked it few times, I found It's very structured, easy to read, also, it has lots of interesting topics. You did a great work!

Robert and I are very sorry that we do not have enough time to visit you and Wednesday night. But we have a very good news to tell you. Robert won the first prize of 2002 AGTA Spectrum Awards. We just been told through phone this week. The award is the highest honor internationally, it's the Nobel in our trade. He will be honored at the American Gem Trade Association in Tucson Arizona in Feburary.

September 11th, terriest attack hit US world trade center. Afterward, they hit Canad's economy. I have read that more than 35% of the companies in Canada are only hired less than four employees. That means our economy is not only supported by the big companies and high-tech companies. Healthy economy should based on the balance development of each trade. For example, Yellow knife has the richest diamond resources in the world. Canadian non-conflict diamond should be a great opportunity for the economy. The small studio like us is so specialized, the stuffs are highly trained, they are the best in North America. But we are the first suffering from the economy downturn. I checked with different Government support programmes. They all for high-tech companies! We've heared that the Government is going to give tax break for small companies, that would be great to know.

Do you have any suggstions and comments?

Warm regards, Robert & Pauline Sympatico [p_ackermann sympatico.ca]

Hello to you both, First I would like to thank you for receiving me last Wednesday, I enjoyed the evening. And, the last word. Wed 6/20/01 It is really a nice surprise to hear from you and thank you very much for your invitation to this Wenesday night. Both Andre asaumier yahoo.com and I however are not in Montreal right now: he is still in that exotic Vietnam, struggling with the tropical heat and humid and trying to shed some light on the headachy ideological paradoxes and dilemmas of the Vietnamese leaders, another kind of "to be or not to be". And I am in Kingston for some work of myself and I will only be back to Montreal later this week. I just got your message when I checked my Montreal answering machine from Kingston.

Dear David,

Once again it was an outstanding meeting. I find those evenings extremely stimulating. It is always a brand new learning experience and I consider myself priviledged to participate. Thank you so much for letting me contribute. Just a quick question: Who is lady, the "den mother", who so eloquently summarized the evening? I spoke to her briefly but did not catch her name. Thanks David!

Dear Diana and David,

Thanks so much for the invitation. The event sounds more than interesting and I am honoured to be invited. Right now I am in Kyrgyzstan, which is about as far from Rosemount Avenue as one can get so, unfortunately, I will not be able to be there.

Having just finished a day of hiking in the (foothills of the) Tien Shan range (the second highest mountain range in the world) and enjoyed a meal of roast yak, I can't complain. However, I do miss Wednesday night and hope that I can get back for the Millenium Event, although this is far from certain.

Look forward to seeing you soon, Sam

Dear David and Diana,

Just a quick note to wish you all the best for tomorrow evening and to send my regrets that I'm still stuck up here in Kyrgyzstan and therefore unable to attend. I can assure you, however, that I will be with you in my thoughts and drink a toast to the event as I head back on the weekly Thursday a.m. BA flight, which should be departing from Bishkek at just about the same time you will be starting the festivities. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the little rhyme which follows.

Best of everything to both of you,

Sam

Every week on Wednesday night,
We come from the left and from the right,
From far and near and in between,
From high and low, to see and be seen,
To discourse with eloquence,
And expound with elegance.
We preach and argue and even squabble,
Yet never does the conversation wobble.
With David at the helm the course is true,
Even though the subject may be blue.
And when the pilot must be guided,
Diana makes sure he's not one-sided.
After one thousand nights the magic has just begun,
Like Sheherezade's Prince, we need a thousand and one.

Tue 4/10/01 Diana,
I am so glad you are interested in working into one of your wonderful evenings the theme of how Canada can become a talent magnet for youth - we feel that in an increasingly knowledge-based, global environment (to use but two cliches!) this will be increasingly important. We have discovered that many others feel this way, from the 200 delegates who applied to be delegates at our forum to Maclean's magazine, which will feature the forum on their July 1st issue, and knowing the caliber of your guests, I think they would be very interested.
Quick question/request: the prime mover behind Canada25 and our upcoming forum is a women named Alison Loat, who is working in Toronto. I think it would be wonderful to have her talk to your guests; unfortunately she would be unable to come to Montreal on the 18th, but would be able to make on 25th. I know that this is last minute, but if it were possible to discuss the theme of Canada as a talent magnet on the 25th, I think her presence would be very beneficial. However, if it is too late to make that change, I would be able to talk about the severity of the problem and potenital solutions on the 18th, as well as Jeremy Jonas, whose company is helping sponsor the event. We would also love this chance to get your guests' perspective on this issue. <
I will send you some of the info that we have gathered, but in the mean time a quite comprehensive source is the Canada25 website at www.canada25.com - there are links to most articles published in the last two years on the subject, as well as an overview of our philosophy.
Thanks, and I look forward to seeing you again.

Hello!
I hope this email finds you both well. I logged on to your website by accident, and as I clicked through the various pages and photos it brought back fond memories. My parents always enjoyed their time at your home. I can't remember the last time we spoke, but you are no doubt aware of my mother's passing. My father is now re-married, and living in the country outside of Ottawa. A home he built on a piece of land overlooking the Ottawa river. He found the land while visiting an old friend-Rod Blaker--yes the infamous MP from Lachine-Lakeshore who used to work with dad at CJAD.

I'm now at Global as news director. It was tough to leave CFCF after 15 years (except for 2 years in New York), but the challenge of running three news bureaus, and being responsible for all local programming was an offer I couldn't refuse. And now Global owns the Gazette. And CFCF is up for sale, with rumors of more cutbacks. I guess it was good Timing.

I would love to have news of you and your family.

Are you still in the famous house in Westmount. I'm back living here, just a few hundred yards from where I grew up on Anwoth. Who says you can't go home!

Looking forward to your news,

Leslie Roberts

What a beautiful and lovely couple you made in the picture in the http://www.geocities.com/davidnicholson_99/AndrewGEO.htm !!

I don't know when you finally got married (please tell), but if that was in 1967, then you must be "pushing 30" !! In years of marriage that is. Very few couples can claim this honor. We should be reminded of it once-in-a-while; it's nice to see marriages that last (and last).

P. P. S. You are quite something. Plaid pattern, of all things ! Very good !!

Both you and David are doing (with Westweb) what a true community internet service provider should do... none in Montreal are really doing it as it takes a full time interest in just getting the info posted in a timely manner... I'm absolutely convinced that people want that "local" connection to "local" information...as I tell people here LaurentianWeb is nothing but a local community paper for the english in the laurentians.

We ended up with 14,443 hits for November... quite amazing. I'd like to see you get more traffic too...you are doing the right thing David but I have a suspicious feeling that the demographics of Westmount are particularly not computer oriented...oh yes...the kids are on like crazy playing opn battlenet and other interactive sites but the white male 45 plus in Westmount is probably technophobic... Gotta get these guys onboard...they still believe it doesn't matter.

Dear David & Diana:

Josh Freed's article on page A2 of Saturday's Gazette & the Gazette editorial during the week are the first positive reports on Montreal conditions in a long time from the Anglophone press They refute to a large extent the National Geographic article on the Quebec situation. Maybe at some time in the future our children will return.

Your Web site is really fantastic and most impressive. It is most informative not only about Wednesday nights, but also what is happening in Westmount and its environs as well as the world. Keep up the good work. It is much appreciated.

Dear Diana and David,
I have finally done it! Your Westweb is now the start page on my Bowser.
It is a wonderful way to start an internet session. All the information one would need is right there: for serious work, for the children and just for the heck of it. I have given your address to all my out of town friends and the verdict is unanimous: it is the closest thing to living in Westmount and Montreal on the net.
Thank you for my start page,

Dear David,
Thanks for the plug on the Couch home page. There were several articles on Couch while we were there, interestngly enough, the journalists still see it as a significant forum for independent and uncensored thinking. I am always amazed anew at just how stimulating the Couch experiance is, even in this period of jaded journalism and abdication of individuality. .....your web page and I have to admit that I was overwelmed. So much to choose from and most of it seems to point to Peter Trent! I hesitated to get into any of it for fear that I would be inundated with a still greater choice. Where do you find the time to do all that? I am not sure where I can put a link from the Montreal West site (www.mowest.org) to the Westmount site. I think its a great idea though. I wonder how many other MUC municipalities have sites. It might be interesting to see if we can do a link "pooling". We are getting hits rom ex residents all over Canada and Italy (losa Italians used live a Montreal West). One old guy, who e-mailed via a nephew, was pissed off that we didn't have a decent street map of the community so that he could show his nices and nephews (regular and grand) exactly where he lived! We are correcting that oversite. Another ex resident, now permanently resident in Japan, uses the TMW site to show her school class what "life in Montreal" is all about. Oh yes, you may be interested in taking a look at a site 'www.iadc.com',which is another site I did. I also have an interest in the company. Cheers Hugh J. Upton Air-Stop International Inc. Montreal. Subject: Your site Your have a very interesting site. It is important that as Internet develops it does so on a human scale. You are part of the pioneering! Of course we will have to wait until people have Internet access at home (the box on the TV?) for it to be really powerful. Meantime, we have special problems of communicating in Westmount and I give a lot of my time to attempting to overcome them. I wish that the recent city newspaper (Rapport) hadn't been necessary; but it was needed and has been a worthwhile effort. We now have to do something with greater depth and produced with short deadlines. The page of Brian Puddington (and the appropriate Gazette extracts) is part of what I mean. As we move forward, we must keep in mind how awful the local papers are in many other Quebec towns. Let's aim is to transfer some of our community spirit and integrity to such places.
